Better Torches Mod / Addon

Mods / Addons / Mods 1.21

Better Torches Mod is one of those “why isn’t this default?” style addons that just makes everyday survival feel smoother. It adds dynamic lighting to all four vanilla torch types in Minecraft Bedrock Edition: Normal Torch, Soul Torch, Redstone Torch, and Copper Torch. The big difference is that torches now give off light while held, so you’re not forced to spam-place torches just to see where you’re walking.

The offhand behavior is the real quality-of-life flex. When you use a torch, it automatically gets placed into your offhand, which means you can keep moving and keep your gameplay rhythm. You’re not constantly pausing to juggle items just to keep your screen lit. In caves, that’s huge—especially when you’re squeezing through tight spots, checking corners, or trying to move quickly without turning every wall into a torch museum.

In actual mining runs, Better Torches Mod makes you play more confidently because you can scout ahead with light in your hand, then decide where you actually want permanent lighting. That’s perfect when you’re low on torches and you don’t want to waste them every five blocks just to see. It also helps in those annoying 1-block-high corridors where placing blocks can feel clunky and slow; holding a torch for light keeps the run from turning into a crawl.

A simple practical tip is to lean into the “carry light, place less” mindset. Use the held-torch light to move through dark areas, then only place torches where you need actual path markers or want to keep an area lit long-term. Better Torches Mod stays lightweight and vanilla-friendly, so it feels like a natural upgrade instead of a total rewrite, and once you get used to moving through caves with a torch lighting your way, it’s hard to go back.
