Nether Speedrun Mod flips the usual speedrun mindset by turning death into something you might actually plan around instead of avoiding at all costs. The objective is clear: go to the End and make it back to the Overworld alive. The twist is the death system. Every time you die, the mod adds a 3-minute penalty to your time, but you respawn with powerful perks (abilities) or items. So the run becomes a real strategy problem: do you play clean and fast to avoid penalties, or do you intentionally take a death early to grab perks that make later sections faster and safer?

That trade-off is what makes Nether Speedrun Mod feel different in-game. If you’re struggling in a tough area, dying might be worth it if the perk you gain helps you speed through the next stretch. But if you die too many times, those 3-minute penalties stack up and can ruin your final time even if you become overpowered. The fun comes from reading your own run: knowing when to stay disciplined, and when to “cash in” a death because the long-term benefit beats the time loss.



The mod includes three game modes, and you pick one at the start using the Clock (Game Menu). Choice Mode is the most controlled. When you die, you get three randomly selected perk options and you choose one, which makes it perfect for players who like building a plan and shaping their run around the perks they’re offered. Random Mode is pure chaos. On death, a random perk is forced on you, and the description warns you can get strong buffs or nasty debuffs like constant explosions or slowness. That mode is basically for high-risk runs where you’re testing luck as much as skill. Speedrun Mode is the strict version: no perks and minimal starting items, so it’s a straight test of Minecraft survival skills with none of the death-trading mechanics helping you out.

Practical tip: treat deaths like a limited resource. In Choice Mode, an early perk can pay off big if it helps you move faster later, but don’t fall into the trap of “dying for upgrades” over and over, because the time penalty never stops being real. In Random Mode, play safer than you think you need to, because one bad roll can turn the run into pure pain. Nether Speedrun Mod is basically a Bedrock speedrun challenge where your decision-making around death is just as important as your movement and survival skills.
